Dead by Daylight is a competitive horror action game with an interesting idea behind it. You can choose whether you want to be a killer or survivor, but the goal is the same – be the last team standing. The release has been around for more than two years and it has attracted a fair amount of players’ attention. Let’s see what the fuss is all about and whether this game is worth your while.
Four Survivors versus One Killer
The team of survivors has four members, while the killers act on their own. The players whose aim is to survive have a task that they need to fulfill to escape the villain. There are five generators that they need to repair in order to open the way out. On the other hand, the killer wants to please the otherworld gods by killing and hanging the other players. The task may sound easy for the survivors, but the truth is that the chances are on the villain’s side. However, there is no doubt that it is much better to play the game as the ones trying to survive. If you do that, you will need to face constant fear and intense and looking over your shoulder to check if the killer is behind you.
Find and Fix Generators, but Beware of the Villain
There are several in-game environments available as you can choose between a junkyard, ruined mansion, and deteriorated farm. The goal is the same – find and fix the broken generators. While finding them might not take a lot of time, fixing them is a slow process. It involves getting near and holding the left mouse button, but if you are alone, you will need to hold it for an entire minute. Also, you need to use your skills to prevent an explosion that will let the killer know your exact location, which will put a target on your back. In those situations, it is good to have a flashlight as you can use it to blind the villain for a moment. However, as soon as you notice him, you should run away. Keep in mind that you are slower than him (as it usually happens in horror movies). The good news is that you can block his path by pushing down as many pallets as you can and it is also a wise move to jump through windows.
Listen to Your Heart
To make things a bit easier for the survivors, you can hear your heart beating at all times. If you get close to the villain, the heart rate will accelerate. However, the generator makes a lot of noise, which means you cannot rely on hearing your heartbeat in those moments. If you choose to be the killer, you can see the location of generators and wait around them. You can also check for tracks in the grass or scratches on walls to figure out where your victims are heading. You will, however, need an entire minute to chop down and hang each survivor. Players get extra points for rescuing their colleagues from the hands of the villain, but they also have to do that because it is enough for the killer to make a single kill to win.
The game is always hosted by the villain, which can lead to connection issues if they are far away from you. There is no indication whether you are playing with people from the region or from an entire part of the world, which can lead to annoying server problems.
