Northgard is a new strategy game developed by the Shiro Games, the studio that created the Evoland franchise. Now they are offering something different by putting us in a role of a commander of a Viking clan. People have heard of Northgard, the new land filled with resources and dangers, but few have decided to explore it. You will be heading a group of brave Vikings that will build their settlements and try to survive there.
Norse-themed Strategy with Familiar Formula
The game offers a familiar concept placed into the Norse mythology lore. You will start with a small village with only a handful of people available. However, as you progress, you will develop into a settlement with considerable population and strong enough to resist all the threats from other clans and weird creatures. However, to do that, you will need to obtain vital resources and task your villagers to exploit them.
The good news is that you can move your people from one assignment to another. If you need more food, order them to become farmers. However, keep in mind that each structure can only accept a limited number of workers. The available roles that your villagers can do include sailors, warriors, loremasters, farmers, and many others.
Make Smart Choices to Win
The map is divided into tiles, and each of them has something unique that can help you in developing your clan. As you explore the map and look for ways to expand, you will encounter forests and fertile lands to increase food, as well as stone and iron deposits to construct your buildings. The trick is that each region of the map can accommodate only a certain amount of buildings. This restriction adds to the strategy element and forces you to think about your next moves in advance.
Northgard gives you the opportunity to choose the clan you want to lead to glory. Bear, Raven, Goat, Wold, Stag, and Boar are the available choices. Each of them comes with particular advantages, and you need to tailor the tactics accordingly. The game you are playing might have specific winning requirements, such as Conquest, Trading, or Fame, which is another thing to think about when selecting your clan.
Can You Find the Right Balance?
It might seem simple, but it’s not an easy task to come out as a winner in this game. You have a restricted amount of workers at your disposal and so much to do. Producing food for the entire settlement takes a lot of work power, but you can’t leave the borders open for others, can you? The game can be played solo, but I should mention that the AI makes some weird decisions. The campaign mode has a total of 11 chapters, and you can use it to prepare for the real thing.
And that is the multiplayer mode. Playing against friends and real opponents is incredibly engaging, and the fun can go on for days. The good news is that the servers work flawlessly and you won’t have any issues while playing online.
