Fallout Shelter has been present as a mobile release for a couple of years now. We will focus on the PC version now, but the key features mostly remain the same. Although it is a part of the Fallout franchise, you shouldn’t expect anything complex from this game. Instead, you can expect a casual release perfect for spending your leisure time.
Easy to Learn
The game puts you in charge of an underground Vault. Your goal will be to create a happy community that lives underground. The vaults have become the only safe place for Dwellers to live in and you will be in charge of building and maintaining the best construction out there. Although it is a management game, nothing too complicated waits beneath the surface. In fact, Fallout Shelter begins with a tutorial that will explain you the mechanics of the game.
You will soon realize that electricity should be your top priority. That is why you will need to build a power generator room from where your entire community will get electrical energy. Keeping your Dwellers content starts with taking care of their basic needs. That will include constructing restaurants and plants for ‘water treatment.’ One thing led to another, and you will soon be in a situation to expand your Vault and welcome new citizens.
Can You Keep Your Dwellers Happy?
Each one of your people has specific skills. For example, you will have charismatic personalities that are ideal to have their own radio stations, as well as those that are more intelligent and therefore fit for complex tasks. You can move the dwellers by dragging and dropping them to the desired place. The game even offers you the option to be a matchmaker, which was fun at times.
As you progress through the game, your people will be able to surface and explore the surrounding Wasteland. That will get you to valuable loot, but you need to ensure to keep your dwellers alive. The dangers that are lurking from outside (and inside!) will occasionally try to harm your vault. I’ve had situations when the room went on fire, as well as infestations and monsters from the Wasteland attacking my community.
Craft Weapons to Defend Your Vault
The items that your Dwellers bring back from the Wasteland don’t necessarily need to be junk. You can use the crafting feature to make weapons and armor. Quests are another specific addition to the PC version of Fallout Shelter. In this mode, you send teams of up to three of your people on a mission. You equip them with Rad-Away’s to fight radiation and Stimpaks to secure that they have enough health.
The quest will be successfully completed after the timer expires. You can speed up the progress of the mission if you use the premium in-game currency Nuka Cola. This is where you can either wait or spend some real cash to accelerate your development in the game.
