Even if you haven’t heard of Chuchel, you are probably familiar with Amanita Design. In the indie games scene, they are known as a team of weird dudes who have incredibly inventive ideas they turn into a fun and intriguing games. They worked on Machinarium and Samorost, and they are now bringing us Chuchel. You shouldn’t expect anything too complicated from this game. However, if you want to embark on an adventure full of comedy and laughing, you are in for a delightful afternoon or two.
Who the Hell is Chuchel?
The game was named after the main protagonist. He is a ball-like black thingy with an orange hat. You could say that he reminds of the old cartoon character Calimero, but it seems that the authors took the inspiration for the game from Ice Age. Remember the squirrel that continually pursues an acorn? That is what you will do in Chuchel, expect you are a ball-like creature, and the acorn is a cherry.
Basically, you will be going through around 30 vignettes. Although they are all independent cartoons, you will need to play them in the order the developers intended. Your goal will be to find out a way to get your favorite treat. Sometimes you will be playing by yourself, but in other cases, you will battle with a creature that reminds of a rat. There is only one cherry, and he wants to be the one who gets to eat it, too.
Find a Proper Way to Interact with the Screen
Don’t’ expect a lot of logic with Chuchel. Sometimes you will not be able to predict what should happen on the screen. In that case, you will resort to the favorite thing to do in P&C adventures – clicking everywhere. Sometimes you will need to go through all the wrong choices until you get the chance to make the right one.
But the fun is not in the destination, but it is in the journey. Thanks to the beautiful minimalistic graphics, you will enjoy watching the black thingy fail in its attempts to get the dessert. You will complete some levels in under a minute, while other areas will require up to fifteen minutes of your attention. The estimated duration of the entire game is about two to three hours. It is not that long, but a bunch of funny moments along the way make up for it.
Not everything is about clicking, though. You will get to play a series of mini-games, too. They include something that reminds of Space Invaders, participating in a robot fight, and avoiding obstacles while flying.
